Transparent refurbished Super Nintendo consoles

Rose-Colored gaming’s producing a limited run of transparent Super Nintendo consoles, refurbished from cosmetically-damaged originals. The guts are painted and polished to be pretty behind the new acrylic enclosures. [via]

These SNES consoles have been treated to a 100% brand new, hand-built exterior, all while retaining complete original function. Each is assembled by hand with the care and attention to detail that you have come to expect from RCG. The housing consists of laser cut and etched acrylic components which have been drilled, bent, bonded, threaded, & assembled using all new anodized aluminum hardware. Many internal components have been slathered in various finishes then etched in order to accentuate items which were never meant to be seen. All hand-built, these units will only be available in VERY limited quantities upon release, with each being treated to a unique serial number.

This newscaster's terrified reaction is all of us getting caught daydreaming at work

TwitterFacebook

Any good employee spends at least 50 percent of the work dreaming they were somewhere else, and another 30 percent trying not to get caught doing it.

One particularly Australian newscaster wasn’t so lucky. While waiting to introduce a new segment on Australia’s ABC24, she got interrupted while examining her nails at her desk, something all of us have done at least once before (please don’t try and deny it).

Unfortunately, this particular newscaster got caught while on live television.

Enjoy.

We’re confident that this viral moment is way better than whatever she was planning to introduce next. Read more…

Waiting for the new new thing

The smartphone wars are over, and everybody won. Life without our phones is almost unthinkable. I just spent the last five days on a couple of remote Pacific islands, and every so often I’d look up and see a flower-garlanded local child immersed in a Samsung tablet – and this seemed wholly unremarkable. But now that the gold rush is over, and we’ve entered the mopping-up… Read More

Alec Baldwin plays both Donald Trump and Bill O'Reilly in searing 'SNL' skit

TwitterFacebook

Alec Baldwin played two problematic, white American men on this week’s Saturday Night Live.

He first appeared as President Donald Trump in the show’s cold open and later pulled double duty, playing both Trump and Fox News anchor Bill O’Reilly in a scathing sketch addressing the sexual harassment allegations against the O’Reilly Factor host.

Baldwin’s O’Reilly opened the segment by promising to address “the scandal everyone’s been talking about all week.”

“The scandal no one thought I’d have the guts to address head on,” he added, “about the shocking allegations of abuse of power that have been leveled against … the Obama administration.” Read more…

Livejournal's Russian owners announce new anti-LGBT policy, fandom stages mass exodus

Mitch Wagner writes, “LiveJournal is a venerable online community that predates Facebook and even blogging. It got acquired by a Russian company a few years ago, but some of its American and British users hung on, including sf and fantasy writers and fans. Lately, I know one of my friends was scrambling to leave, but I’d been too busy to look into why.”
