What would parents do to their kids if they ridiculed a senator? Give them ice cream, apparently

Wednesday’s CNN town hall on gun violence was always going to be a heated affair.

But the forum also presented numerous opportunities for the students, teachers and parents of Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, to confront decision makers about inaction on guns.

Namely Republican Senator Marco Rubio, who was asked by shooting survivor Cameron Kasky if he would reject contributions from the National Rifle Association, in a nod to the lobby group’s political influence.

Cameron Kasky, who survived the school shooting: “Sen. Rubio, can you tell me right now that you will not accept a single donation from the NRA?”
Rubio: “People buy into my agenda, and I do support the Second Amendment” #StudentsStandUp https://t.co/ucmVB74g1C

Debullshitifying the free speech debate about CNN and Trump's alt-right wrestling GIF

In the wake of CNN threatening to out a critic if he does not limit his speech in the future, former federal prosecutor and First Amendment champion Ken White has published an eminently sensible post about the incoherence of the present moment’s views on free speech, and on the way that partisanship causes us to apply a double standard that excuses “our bunch” and damns the “other side.”

Kellyanne Conway will not be ignored, Jake. Especially not in Saturday Night Live‘s remake of the 90s thriller Fatal Attraction.

Played by Kate McKinnon, the Trump advisor goes all single white female on Beck Bennett’s Jake Tapper, lurking uninvited in his house, desperate to get back on the news.

In the skit, the State Of The Union host heads home from work after declining to book Conway — an incident that reportedly happened on CNN this week. Little does he know, the New Jersey native is waiting in the dark. And she has an affection for knives. Read more…

Daily Show host Trevor Noah believes Donald Trump’s press conference on Wednesday – the president-elect’s first in around six months – gave us more than enough reason to be scared.

He found many issues in Trump’s wild press conference, like when Trump prattled on about his ability to run his business and the country if he chose to, which Noah found disturbing enough.

But maybe the biggest decry to the president-elect came when Noah ended his segment by focusing on Trump’s shouting match with CNN’s Jim Acosta, who was trying to ask the president-elect a question after Trump attacked his news organization.  Read more…

Donald Trump made CNN one of his favorite targets of media bashing during the election. At Wednesday’s press conference, he took the opportunity to express his rage at one reporter in particular: Jim Acosta.

Acosta is CNN’s senior White House correspondent and was present at Trump’s first press conference since winning the presidential election. Trump railed on CNN for publishing a story that claimed the president-elect had been briefed by leaders in the intelligence community on claims that Russia held sensitive information bout him.

Trump vehemently denied the reports and attacked CNN and BuzzFeed, leading to Acosta’s attempt at asking a question. Read more…

From the very beginning of Trump’s contentious press conference on Wednesday, the president-elect expressed his contempt for news organizations like CNN and Buzzfeed.

PEOTUS’ ire appears to have been provoked by a story published by CNN last night, which referenced a memo alleging that Trump may have been compromised by Russia. When CNN reporter Jim Acosta attempted to ask Trump a question today, Trump shut the senior white house correspondent down, accusing him of publishing fake news.

Acosta made repeated attempts to have the president-elect answer a question, but Trump spoke over the reporter and referred to him as “rude.”  Read more…
