Twitter mourns the passing of President Joe Biden’s beloved dog, Champ

Twitter mourns the passing of President Joe Biden's beloved dog, Champ

He was a good boy.

On Saturday, President Biden announced on Twitter that his family’s beloved dog, Champ, had passed away at 13 years old.

Our family lost our loving companion Champ today. I will miss

— President Biden (@POTUS) June 19, 2021

Biden isn’t the only one mourning. “Champ” quickly became a trending topic on Twitter, with people expressing their condolences and sadness over the pup’s death, who was the older brother to Major, the youngest Biden dog.

The handwritten note I got back “from Major & Champ” after I left treats for them at their local pet store in Delaware 😭. RIP Champ #ripchamp

Please watch this dog gaze at its forbidden lover, a blueberry

Please watch this dog gaze at its forbidden lover, a blueberry

Not all fruits are safe for dogs, but blueberries are perfectly fine. In fact, they’re a healthy, antioxidant-rich treat.

Unfortunately, this particular blueberry is on a glass table, and this dog is under it. She doesn’t seem to have quite grasped the concept of “glass,” though, and keeps swiping at the berry as if to scoop it out of the air.

It’s a tragedy, ultimately, but it’s still really cute. Read more…

Watch this very good dog invade a pro soccer match

Watch this very good dog invade a pro soccer match

Everybody loves a good sports dog. The world was particularly blessed on Sunday when a very good dog invaded a Turkish soccer pitch, trying to get in on the action.

The internet demands justice for Daniel, the Westminster Dog Show’s real winner

The internet demands justice for Daniel, the Westminster Dog Show's real winner

The 144th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show crowned its Best in Show on Tuesday night, bestowing the honour upon a black standard poodle named Siba.

In usual circumstances we can all agree that all dogs are good dogs, and no dog is more good than others. But the Westminster Dog Show is not usual circumstances. Pitting pup against pup, this thunderdome forces its audience to evaluate the goodness of dogs against each other, whittling them down in a brutal competition to find the Best in Show.

The ritual was completed again this week, when the Westminster Dog Show bestowed the coveted title upon Siba. Indeed, few would disagree that Siba is a very good dog.  Read more…

Here’s Chris Evans’ dog in a white sweater. You are welcome.

Here's Chris Evans' dog in a white sweater. You are welcome.

What could possibly be better than Chris Evans in the lush, luxe, off-white cable-knit sweater that broke the internet?

The matching version worn by his dog.

The sweater heard round the world — or, specifically, by someone sitting next to Mashable’s Nicole Gallucci at a screening of Knives Out during a moment of pure and overwhelming thirst, captured in a viral tweet — inspired waves of fans wearing similar items to screenings.

Evans’ Knives Out character Ransom Drysdale may have been less than wholesome, but in our divided era, at least everyone can agree that Chris Evans wore the shit out of that knit. Read more…

New Alexa smart speaker skill plays music for your dog

“Who let the dogs out? Woof! Woof!”

That’s one of the songs (along with any other remixes of the Baha Men’s 2000 hit) we’d include on the new Alexa smart speaker skill for your dog. Puppy Jams! is an iHeartRadio music skill that plays songs for your dog even if you’re not around.

Monday is International Dog Day. Let your dog rock out in honor of the very official holiday by turning on the Alexa skill.

For any Amazon device connected to the digital assistant Alexa, you can say, “Alexa, open Puppy Jams!” Then you tell the AI how your dog is feeling: stressed, lonely, or happy. Based on the mood you indicated, the device will select an iHeartRadio playlist made for canines.  Read more…

Glenn Close, far from her Cruella de Vil days, is covered in puppies

Glenn Close was frightening as Cruella de Vil in the 1996 live-action film 101 Dalmatians.

Not these days. Close was covered in puppies on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, thanks to her superior general knowledge skills during another edition of “Pup Quiz.”

Close battled Stranger Things’ Finn Wolfhard in the segment on Monday night, picking up a whole heap of dang adorable goldendoodles along the way.

And boy, doesn’t she love it. Read more…

We humbly request Spencer the dog to cheer us on at all future events

Running a marathon in bad weather conditions? You could use a little support from Spencer.

Competitors faced terrible weather at the Boston Marathon on Monday, with freezing rains and wind making for a tricky day.

One consolation? Spencer the dog, who was rugged up in a rain jacket and waving a flag on the side of the road as runners raced by. What a champion.

Spencer the therapeutic dog braved the rain and cold to continue tradition of cheering on runners at the Boston Marathon for the third consecutive year!

Little pug helps his doggie friend out by giving him a great back scratch

Teamwork makes the dream work.

In this video uploaded to Youtube by Storyful Rights Management, a very helpful little pug scratches the back of his much larger pup friend. And the big dog can’t get enough. His leg is going wild from all the great doggie scratches.

Lil’ Pug saw his friend in need and stepped up to the plate with vigor. Someday we hope Big Dog will return the favor, but he’ll have to be careful. That pug is tiny.

WeRateDogs Twitter combats Muslim ban with 'unconditional love'

The @dog_rates Twitter account is protesting Donald Trump’s #MuslimBan with adorable photos (naturally) and messages of love.

It started innocently enough on Saturday, during widespread airport protests railing against the Trump administration’s immigration ban — which affects an outsized proportion of Muslims. The WeRateDogs account shared a photo of a cute pup protester wearing a sign that read: “I wag 4 refugees.”

Here’s a very loving and accepting puppo. Appears to have read her Constitution well. 14/10 would pat head approvingly

Considerate dog probably has better bathroom etiquette than you

This is Jumpy.

Jumpy is a border collie mix who can use a urinal without missing, and flush after he is done. This is very impressive, because there are still many humans that have not mastered either one of those two things.

Keep showing us up with your agile and adorable ways, Jumpy. You inspire us.
