I tried to write a novel in a month and now I have a publishing offer

TwitterFacebook

Back in December 2015, I wrote a fairly waffling account of my attempt to write 50,000 words in 30 days for National Novel Writing Month.

You can read the whole thing here if you want, but the TL;DR version is this: I had very little sleep, drank far too much tea, and all-in-all felt like I had aged about 10 years in the process. But in the end I just about managed it.

After reaching the 50,000 word target, I had three main aims: 1) actually finish the book, 2) have a stab at getting it published, and 3) somehow become best friends with Stephen King and/or J.K. Rowling, who are pretty much my literary heroes and the subject of at least 80% of the articles I write for Mashable. Read more…

J.K. Rowling made a huge correction to this 'Daily Mail' headline

TwitterFacebook

Just after midnight on Monday morning, a man drove a van into a crowd of Muslim worshippers outside Finsbury Park Mosque in London.

Ten people are injured and one man is dead, the BBC reports, and counter-terrorism officers are in attendance.

For awhile after the attack happened, though, some news headlines weren’t mentioning the word “terrorism”. This didn’t go unnoticed.

This is not an accident, it’s not a collision, it’s not revenge. It’s terrorism. The media should be calling it as such#FinsburyPark

Piers Morgan, a man who has always had trouble with criticism, responded to a brutal Saturday burn from J.K. Rowling by saying he’s “never read a single word of Harry Potter.”

But, Piers, what about that opinion piece, hm?

It all started when Rowling declared her joy at seeing Piers Morgan decimated on live TV by Jim Jefferies on Real Time with Bill Maher.

Yes, watching Piers Morgan being told to fuck off on live TV is *exactly* as satisfying as I’d always imaginedhttps://t.co/4FII8sYmIt
