Judge blocks Texas from defunding Planned Parenthood

Authorities in Texas who falsely claimed that Planned Parenthood sells fetal body parts are prohibited from withholding federal Medicaid funds from Planned Parenthood, a federal judge ruled today. This is a significant legal victory for Planned Parenthood, which is under renewed conservative attack under President Donald Trump.

Indie-pop hero Halsey has just helped prove that even if Twitter can’t save the world, it can certainly assist in changing it.

Following Trump’s inauguration, the immensely popular “New Americana” singer has made her support of reproductive health services like Planned Parenthood — services at direct risk under a new government — well known. 

Her support came in the form of cash, and lots of it.

With the imminent inauguration of President-elect Donald J. Trump, Congressional Republicans now have exactly what they need to make good on a long-held obsession: “defunding” Planned Parenthood. 

Their previous effort to strip the nonprofit health care provider of the federal funding it uses for routine healthcare was stymied by President Obama’s veto, but Trump has no such qualms. 

So it’s important that Americans are clear on exactly what this means. 

“Defunding” requires excluding Planned Parenthood from participating in Medicaid, the federal insurance program for poor and low-income Americans younger than 65.  Read more…
