The author of 'The Fault in Our Stars' explains Pokémon perfectly

TwitterFacebook

John Green has a way with wordsObviously. He only wrote The Fault in Our Stars, nbd.

Here, Green describes his discovery of Pokémon. His son Henry is obsessed, so Green shares — in his own, hilarious words — what the fiction and the phenomenon are all about… as he understands it.

Pokémon is weird, especially when it’s filtered through the lens of someone who only understands it as a spectator. This is some good internet right here. Read more…

'Pokémon GO' celebrates Easter with egg-cellent bonuses

TwitterFacebook

Easter is just around the corner and Pokémon GO is celebrating with a limited-time Eggstravaganza.

No, you don’t get any free eggs, but between April 13 to April 20 there will be double XP as well as some generous egg-related bonuses.

Throughout the week, your 2 km eggs will have a chance to hatch more than just the low-tier Pokémon they currently do. When the eggs hatch, they’ll give you more candy than before. Finally, lucky eggs will be 50% off in the in-game store, and they’ll give you 4x XP.

Unfortunately, Niantic Labs didn’t share exactly which Pokémon can be hatched from 2 km eggs during the Eggstravaganza, but hopefully there are some Exeggutors, Togepis, and Chanseys.  Read more…

Usain Bolt and Pikachu are in an ad together and Bolt's the bad guy

TwitterFacebook

The fastest man in the world is now a member of the Pokémon squad.

Pokémon’s latest ads, promoting its new video game series Sun and Moon, sees Usain Bolt starring alongside Pikachu.

Bolt, an eight-time Olympic gold medalist, is dressed as a member of Team Skull, an antagonist Pokémon gang.

“Even in a Pokemon battle, I’m number one,” declares Bolt in the video, before instructing his Pikachu to use his Thunderbolt (geddit) attack.

Bolt is also seen striking his signature victory pose in the video.

LONDON — I feel like I should make one thing clear up front: I love Pokémon Go.

Since I first downloaded the game last July, I don’t think a day’s gone by without me opening up the app. That might sound sad to some people — probably the same people who gleefully comment “dead” every single time Niantic tweet — but that doesn’t really bother me.

I still enjoy playing the game, and anyone who’s been on thriving Reddit communities like The Silph Road (or read how much money Niantic apparently made in 2016) will know that it’s a long way from dead.  Read more…

Magikarp is pretty much a flop as a Pokémon, but as a pancake, it’s a genius idea.

One specialty store in Japan has decided to make a Magikarp version of the traditional fish-shaped taiyaki pancake.

Magikarp’s appeal is, undoubtedly, super effective:

Nintendo reports $569M profit as Pokémon game sales get off to good start

pokemon-sun-moon22 Nintendo only takes a fraction of the revenue from Pokémon Go, the smash hit game of 2016, but its popularity has certainly boosted its own Pokémon games as evidenced by the company’s latest financial report.
