Tesla's Model 3 doesn't come with a key

This might take a little getting used to.

After months and months of anticipation, Elon Musk has finally answered almost all of our questions about the Model 3. But there’s one aspect of the electric car that might take a little more adjustment: there is no key for the Model 3. 

To be clear, this is not the same as the “keyless” systems, which require some kind of key fob, and it’s not the app-enabled remote starting some automakers offer. No, the Model 3 doesn’t require any kind of “key” or physical object other than your smartphone. Read more…

A very confident Tesla launches the new Powerwall 2 in Australia

Elon Musk’s home battery is returning to Australia for a second round.

The new Powerwall 2 has about double the capacity of Tesla’s original Powerwall, and will roll out from April. Vice President for energy products at Tesla Lyndon Rive, who incidentally is Musk’s cousin, was in Melbourne Thursday for the launch.

Although the launch of Tesla’s original rechargeable lithium-ion battery in early 2016 earned plenty of attention locally, the Tesla executive wouldn’t divulge what market share Tesla currently had in Australia’s battery market.  Read more…
