Summary

Description

English: Asteroid (253) Mathilde taken up by the space probe NEAR on 27 June 1997 from a distance of 2400 km. It is lit up from above right by the sun. The part of the Asteroid visible in the picture has an expansion of 59 km x 47 km, whereby the picture resolution amounts to m/pixel 380. On the surface many large crater are visible, like that probably more than 10 km deep crater provided with long shade in the picture centre.

Deutsch: Asteroid (253) Mathilde von der Raumsonde NEAR am 27. Juni 1997 aus einer Entferung von 2400 km aufgenommen. Er wird von oben rechts von der Sonne beleuchtet. Der auf dem Bild sichtbare Teil des Asteroiden hat eine Ausdehnung von 59 km x 47 km, wobei die Bildauflösung 380 m/Bildpunkt beträgt. Auf der Oberfläche sind viele große Krater sichtbar, wie der vermutlich mehr als 10 km tiefe mit langen Schatten versehene Krater in der Bildmitte.
