The year 2007 is almost over & we are nearing to welcome another. We hope the year 2007 remained good and favourable to you. At this precious moment of New Year & great festivity of Christmas, the entire family of SOS Children’s Village Bharatpur wishes you:

SOS Children's Village Bharatpur is the home of 140 children living in 14 different family houses - 10 in each house, 14 mothers, 6 aunts & 12 coworkers. Amongst the total of 140 children, 138 are studying at our SOS School Bharatpur, 1 boy is young enough to join school & 1 senior girl studies Staff Nurse in a college. Most of the children have done quite good in their studies. On the recently held first terminal exam in school, Ashok stood 1st & Barsha 3rd in class 1; Gopal became 1st in class 2; Abinash 1st, Arati 2nd & Topala 3rd in class 3; Bikash 2nd & Anita 3rd in class 4; Arjun 1st, Ashok 2nd & Surendra 3rd in class 5. Our 32 children are doing martial arts & 24 are doing music classes. On a recent karate grading by the District Sports Council, Tej received the award of Best Grading Girls. The council organised district level Kick Boxing and Kata Demonstration in which Tej received the award of the best player & many other children received medals. Sanjaya received the 1st & 2nd prize in the district level art competitions & Sangita Thapa stood 1st in the district level dance competition.
Our children in music are producing the appreciable performance as they are now able to independently organise musical show in various events in the village & school. On sports, they love football & cricket the most. A club named “Little Champs” is formed in the village to promote children’s activities and to empower them. The club is very active and it is timely organising various events in and out the village. Most importantly, the club collected 20 sacks of clothes from the family houses and donated to the family members of flood victims. It organised a week long “Yoga Workshop” in the village and the “Talent Show” for both the children and mothers to mark Children’s Day & Mothers’ Day in which 79 children & 20 mothers performed their talents like: drama, songs, dances, recitation of poems & many more.
Festivals and events bring happiness in children. Accordingly, our children celebrated the Nepalese festivals like: Dashain, Tihar, Teej, Mothers’ Day, Holi & many more. We took our children for educational tours & outings to various parts of the country like: Hetauda - famous for industries, Lumbini - the birth place of Lord Buddha, Tharu Village - famous for Tharu (aborigines) culture, Pokhara - the popular tourist resort and Sauraha - famous for wildlife & elephant riding. SOS Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm organising various events. The major activity among many was the District Level Inter High School Quiz Competition in which 36 high schools participated and Little Flower English School was the victor. The District Level Inter High School Folk Dance Competition was the major activity. 18 high schools participated & our own SOS School bagged the first prize.
There are 460 students & 36 staff in our SOS School Bharatpur & the school has been doing its best to accomplish its target of imparting quality education. The school will start ten plus two from 2008. It recently published the second issue of annual magazine - ‘The Dimension”. The first batch students of School Leaving Certificate Examination are seriously preparing for the exam & we hope that they will come up with the outstanding results. The school is regularly organising different co-curricular & extra curricular activities like: speech, sport, talent show, art exhibition, quiz contest, drama performance and others. Considering the dire need of local community people, our Social Centre has provided scholarships to 230 needy children, Day Care facility to 30 poor & vulnerable children & free medical check up to poor community people. The Center is also running 3 groups Adult Literacy Classes to 75 dalit (downtrodden and so called untouchable) elderly women.
The winter is on a full swing, mornings & nights are quite cold but days are sunny. The political fluidity in our country is still prevalent. Although the Maoists’ proposal of declaring republic state & full proportional electoral system was passed in the parliament with a simple majority, the major ruling parties are reluctant to it & the government is unwilling to pass the bill to execute the proposal. There are still some disputes between & among the seven parties regarding the issue of republic & electoral system & they have not yet been able to fix the new date for the constituent assembly election which has been postponed twice already. Nepalese farmers are at leisure now as they have just completed their harvesting works.

Update from June 2007
Firstly On behalf of SOS CV Sanothimi, we would like to express our hearty gratefulness towards your kind support as well as would like to maintain our long term relationship to update a development report of SOS CV Sanothimi so that you will be well inform and be in touch with us.
We admitted seven children in this year. All the children are from different background and have different story. Now they all are well adjusted in their family and joyfully go to school to attend Kindergarten of SOS School Sanothimi. At present we have 160 children (80 boys and 80 Girls) in SOS CV Sanothimi and 101 Youths (32 Girls & 69 boys) in our SOS Youth Facilities. A grown up girl got married this year. Eight boys moved to the youth facility. Three Young girls and three boys are integrated after finishing studies and training. They are well established in the society and having sound life.
After giving long contribution in SOS CV Sanothimi, one of our experienced Aunts has been retired on March 1, 2007. She is living at the SOS CV Sanothimi Retire Home. Various Refresher Trainings for mothers and co-workers have been carried on in our SOS National Training Center.
18 children (10 boys & 8 girls) from our villages have appeared the S.L.C Exam (Final Exam of Grade 10). They are young energetic boys and girls and want to go in different field after passing their exam. They are very much excited for their up coming life. Recently various children’s playing materials have established for Children of SOS CV Sanothimi; it adds lots of chariness and liveliness in Children’s life. Most of the time small kids as well as grown up children are roaming around in play ground. We have successfully organised trekking for our Children in different places. They are very happy for knowing different places of their own country.
We had organised whole SOS picnic far from the city. Children enjoyed a lot. They made various programs for children, mother and co-workers and enjoyed a lot. The moment was really memorable for us. We have reached in the middle of this year and we are working hard to fulfill our commitment. With the onset of Nepali New Year fall in March/April we all have very good time with our children. We pray for everyone’s better future and share our bliss to each other. Children are engaged in different programs like Art Club, Music Club, Tae Kwan do Club& Sports Club with their full of interest.
It is our pleasure to share our happiness with you, our school has stood up in second position in First open club Gymnastic Championship organized by Nepal Gymnastic Association. Our children won two Gold medals, four Silver medals and three Bronze medals.
The New Academic year 2007/08 had commenced from May 3, 07. New admission for the academic year 2007/08 was taken only in Class VI and Nursery. While selecting the students, children from the walking distance and local community are given priority. Besides, the inclusiveness in terms of gender, ethnicity, economic and social diversity is also considered. Children are greatly enjoying their classes. The academic performance of the students is equally emphasized. SOS School was involved in the Pestalozzi selection process which took place in the SOS National Training Centre Kavre. It is worth mentioning that four of our students have already got the scholarship in the past four consecutive years.
We are quiet safe and in peace atmosphere comparing previous time even though we are suffering from strike in small cause. All the parties, communities and classes have realised the need for republic system in the country. Still political situation of our country is confusing and imbalanced.
