Polar First lands its World Record!

24/05/2007

The intrepid Polar First helicopter duo, Jennifer Murray and Colin Bodill, made an emotional landing at Fort Worth, Texas, yesterday as they completed their world record attempt of flying around the world via both North and South Poles.

The expedition began in December, since when the bright red helicopter and its crew of two have:

Polar First team at the North Pole
  • travelled for 171 days

  • covered 32,206 nautical miles

  • flown through 26 countries

  • and made 101 fuel stops.

WOW! But most importantly Jennifer and Colin have set the world record as the first pilots to successfully travel around the world - from pole to pole - in a helicopter. En-route they’ve stopped at a number of SOS Children’s Villages in Panama, Peru and Brazil and raising funds and awareness of the charity’s work along the way.

The team made it to the South Pole on 8 January, a month into the journey and having travelled back up the American continent arrived at the North Pole on 20 April. A few stops later and Colin and Jennifer found themselves back in Fort Worth, where it all began on 8 December last year, and the celebrations have been going on since!

Congratulations to the Polar First team on a spectacular achievement and thank you for your support of SOS Children’s Villages.
