The notch is no more on the iPhone 14 Pro

Apple launched four new iPhones during Wednesday’s iPhone 14 event on Sept. 7 — and none of them have that top notch.

The four new iPhones include two 6.1-inch and two 6.7-inch models, one of each for the regular iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Pro lines: a 6.1-inch iPhone 14, a 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro, a 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max, and 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max. The 6.1-inch ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌ and the 6.7-inch ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌ Max each have a little tab design called the Dynamic Island on the top instead of the notch.

The notch, which Apple calls the TrueDepth camera array, is the bit of black empty space that surrounds the front camera. It’s been a pretty controversial design decision ever since it was introduced in 2017. Now, it’s a hole punch design that’s also dynamic. When you receive a call, your iPhone’s tab design will expand to show who’s calling you; when you’re calling a car through an app, and more.
