Chromebooks are a great choice for kids for more reasons than being small and easy to handle. Chromebooks barely come with storage because they automatically store everything to the cloud, lessening the chance that your kid will type up an essay and forget to save it. As an internet browser, Chrome runs its own sandbox on every page opened to minimize virus contagion if the user happens to stumble upon one. Plus, it’s unlikely that Chrome will be targeted with malware, anyway.

The cheapest of our Prime Day Chromebook finds is a no-frills model from HP and is the only non-refurbished Chromebook we’ve found (so far) under $100 — a price point we typically see more of on Black Friday. For the price, this HP more than suffices for light daily activities like editing PowerPoints, watching YouTube, or joining a Zoom call.
