Stars ‘wear something WOW’ for orphans
Cambridge, 12 October 2007: TV presenters Lisa Butcher and Phil Spencer go all out for international children’s charity, SOS Children, by sporting Vivienne Westwood ensembles to support the charity’s exciting new ‘wear something WOW’ fundraising campaign.
‘wear something WOW’, which will be part of SOS Children’s World Orphan Week activities
(4th -10th February 2008), aims to get everyone young and old, up and down the country wearing something wacky, extravagant or just plain out of the ordinary for one day during World Orphan Week whilst making a contribution to the world’s largest orphan charity.
No convincing was necessary for SOS Ambassadors Lisa (BBC 1’s What Not To Wear) and Phil (Channel 4’s Location Location) to promote the campaign. “Who can resist the chance to ‘wear something WOW’ for a day, not me that’s for sure. I’m really excited about the campaign and as a single mother of two I feel passionately about the work that SOS Children’s does with some of the world’s most vulnerable children. I am planning to visit an SOS Children’s Village in South America before the end of the year,” enthused former model-turned TV presenter Lisa Butcher.
Phil Spencer jumped at the chance to help, “I experienced SOS Children’s work in Ghana first hand last year and was truly inspired by what I saw. If dressing up for a day will help the charity support even more children and communities, then it’s the very least I can do. I will be asking everyone I know to ‘wear something WOW’.”
100% of the suggested donations of £1 per child and £2 per adult to take part in ‘wear something WOW’ goes directly to SOS Children. Many SOS projects will benefit from the campaign including the building of a new SOS Children’s Village in Chipata, Zambia, where 10% of the country’s children are orphans. The village will include 15 family houses for up to 10 children each with an SOS mother, along with a small nursery and primary school, both of which will also benefit the local community.
The campaign also has the backing of Vivienne Westwood, who, along with London tailor Chris Kerr, was only too pleased to lend the charity some of their fantastic outfits to create some really WOW promotional posters. Vivienne Westwood spoke warmly of her involvement, “As a designer who has always taken inspiration from a broad range of influences and who revels in making beautiful and powerful clothes, I am delighted to be part of SOS Children’s ‘wear something WOW’ campaign, and help give orphans around the world a family for life.”
Monsoon Accessorize will be supporting the charity by selling two ‘WOW’ jewellery items, available in branches of Accessorize and online. 25% of the profits from these items will be donated to The Monsoon Accessorize Trust and this money will go towards supporting SOS Children’s projects in China.
