SIERRA LEONE
Sierra Leone is still (2006) recovering from the affects of the civil war that devastated the country and its people in the 1990s. Statistics about the prevalence of HIV/AIDS are not available from UNICEF. however it is clear that children are particularly vulnerable as the infant mortality rare is about 30%. UNICEF is working in collaboration with international and local non-governmental organisations such as SOS Children's Villages in the campaign to fight against HIV/AIDS.
