WORK REPORT OF SOS CHILDREN’S VILLAGE LHASA, CHINA, Summer 2007 (Report is by someone whose first language is not English)
Up to now, there are 17 family houses, 182 children in the village. Now, we would like to report our work as follows:
(1) General work
A Work for SOS Children’s Village
1. Mother’s training
This year, we send 2 mothers and one co-worker to attend the 32nd mother’s training course conducted by SOS Children’s Villages of China. Through training, all the mothers had improved their quality and knowledge and developed their work concept.
2. Child recruition
According to the principle of running the village made by SOS, We have recruited 3 new children. Up to now, the total number of the children is 182.
3. Family administration:
In the family administration, from the second half year of 2006, our village has been sticking to the principle of systematic, taking” all is for children, for children’s all “as the main goal of our work. Under the leadership of the village director, we go to each family to check the children’s food, the sanitation and so on every week. And we divided the public facilities, trees and lawns to each family and the staffs. Use public holidays to take the “five good families” and the “excellent mother” to inland to visit and study. We remade mother’s check-up standard and made good environment of being industrious and thrifty in managing a house. We have further strengthened checking the family education reserving fund and reserve necessary fund for the growth of the children. Through these ways to improve the staffs and mothers work and made them have better understanding of their profession and wholeheartedly serve our children.
4. Carried out Sponsorships together with donation to open the green channel, strengthen the education fundraising for the children. From February to March 2007, our village received 4 branches of tour group one after another. The internal sponsors have increased 2 in the base of 9. Among 182 children, 38 children have international sponsors. We have 89 international sponsors. In addition, there are 14 sponsors are the facility sponsors. Up to now, we have 11 internal sponsors.
5. Accounting work
We work carefully according to the requirement of SOS International and send monthly report to SOS International and SOS China in time. And examined and verified the families’ accounts. And we have improved the accounting system.
6. Reception work
This year, we received the Deputy National Director Mr. Cai Jie and his party to inspect our work; and received the foreign teacher Mr. Jay Joseph and his party’s visit to our village.
7. The medical work
The medical work is going smoothly. Every year, we give our children health checkup twice and give all the staffs’ health checkup once. We took the new children, the nursery school children and the graduates of the primary school to have health check up. We changed free paid medical book for our children and got the free paid medical book for new children.
8. Afforesting work
In order to improve the survival rate, we totally planted 150 trees and over 1000 roses. In this way, we have further strengthened the staffs the initiative of loving, protecting and afforesting our big family.
9. Hand in hand, heart linked to heart to compose the cultural and moving melody.
a. Loving donation activity
In order to celebrate June 01, the International Children’s Day, our village held an activity. On the shining day, in the open area, our children celebrated their own day. They wore the festival dress and received kind people’s loving presents. Except singing and dancing, we also arranged cakes eating, scramble for the chairs and some games to make our children happy. On the children’s day, all the circles didn’t forget them. The director of the Army Hospital came to give our children free treatment. The Tibet Child Welfare Institute, Tibet Police Fire Fighting, Lhasa Civil Affairs Bureau, Lhasa Disables Union, Lhasa Old People’s House, Bai Jiafu supermarket and A Li Cake came to see our children and gave them stationeries, food and some articles to express their loving care to our children. The kind people’s love is spreading. Our children have experienced the circle’s love and care through their loving action. Here, we are together composing the harmonious melody of the society.
b. The Dumex Company made contribution to our village
On June 30, 2007, our village held a donation ceremony of receiving the donated articles from the Dumex Company. Mr. Bai Yihua, the National director of SOS Children’s Village China, Mrs. Wang Kangying, the Party Committee of Lhasa Civil Affairs Bureau, Mr. Pu Jiabin, the chief inspector of the Inter Company and some people attended the donation ceremony. The Inter Company signed 5 years’ donation contract with our village. On this donation ceremony, they donated an Iveco coach at the price of RMB 220,000.00 Yuan. They also collected every child’s wish and took to their company. They promised the children to try their best to help them to let their wish become true. The ceremony was successful.
B. Children’s educating work
1. We held sports meet during the children’s winter holiday. Our children were active to it. Through setting -up exercises to radio music, leg wrappings, relay race, and rope skipping and some competitions, our children strengthened the capacity of desperation and collective spirit. They competed the level and style. We used the winter holiday to let our children attend the morning exercise to strengthen their body and also let them know the useful person who is useful for the country should be good at moral, intelligence, Physical Education and many aspects.
2. We took the children who are up Grade 4 to visit the educational place of Tibet frontier guards. Through the pictures and explaining, our children could directly experience the frontier guards devote themselves to protect our country; Through visiting the Lang Zisha exhibition to let the children know the comparison between the old Tibet and new Tibet and experience today’s happy life to very hard to have.
3. Our village often holds children’s communicating meeting and let them point their own opinions and know to love family, love village, love studies and be a host of the village. Through this kind of meeting, we put the child education work on the table to talk in order to do the work better.
4. We held a communicating meeting for 7 children who would go to study in inland and invited some leaders from the units that have been supporting us.
C. Nursery School work
Under the direct leadership and care of the village, all the works in the village nursery school are getting on smoothly. This year, we have opened a Pre-school class. Now, there are 8 teachers. Among them, 1 director and 63 children in the nursery school (village kids 8, outside kids 55).
According to the rule of the nursery school, we gave the kids good health check-up. The nursery school invited the kid’s parents to hold some activities to promote the cooperation between home and nursery schoool and received good result. The village also singed the contract on the nursery school work and rewarding and punishment. Continue to hold the education and discussion meeting and let the kid’s parents come into the class. Through improving education in many ways, the nursery school work is improved a lot.
D. Comprehensive administer
Our village has done the social public security comprehensive work well apart from all the administration work. On the security, we pay more attention to the safety of our village that is an International Child Welfare unit except paying attention to the staffs and children’s safety, fire against and guard against theft and some safety. We have strengthened the vehicle management and improved some related system. Our Comprehensive administer work haven’t had any accident in 2007 with all the staff’s effort.
E. Other work
This year in April, 10, the Party Committee Secretary Mrs. Wang Kang Ying, the village director Mrs. Lame Zeugma and the translator Li Hue went to make work report to President Kiting, the Deputy Secretary General Mr.Kaul in Beijing.
Our extensions plans approved (buying the Youth Facility and building mother’s retirement house and the water supply line’s maintenance) means up to now, the preparing work of the Youth Facility is ready. We have bought 5 apartments. The youth can move in in November this year. We have completely finished the water supply-line. The construction of the mother’s retirement house is under preparing and implementing.
In order to improve all the administration system and strengthen the staff’s initiative enthusiasm and set good style of work, take a correct attitude towards work, strengthen responsibility and mission and give full play to their skill, we often hold the driver’s meeting to make requirement to tell them to work according to the rule and observe the traffic regulations and try to drive safely. The office also signed the contract with the staffs such as “the driver’s rule, the aunt and temporary worker’s rule and rewarding and punishment standard. Through improving the administration system to fix work, task, and standard so that to guarantee all the work is implemented.
