Child abandonment exhibition supports SOS Children
18/05/2007
Elizabeth Workman, student at the University of Portsmouth, will be exhibiting her photographs taken as part of her course ‘Access Photography’. The exhibition is a collection of people's work from degree courses to access and foundation, and concentrates on the theme of abandonment.
Elizabeth said, "I chose the theme of child abandonment, as I have worked with children before in a crèche run by my mum. She had been a nanny from the day I was born, so I was surrounded by children. She has so much love for children and I think it has been passed down to me. So the thought of a baby being abandoned is completely chilling. I came across SOS Children as I was searching on the internet for children’s charities, and felt it was the ideal charity to support as it deals with abandoned children all over the world. I looked at their web page and was sure this was the charity I wanted to contact. Its work is outstanding, and they are complete angels."
She continues, "I would like people to look at my work and really think about the children that have been abandoned and the ones that have yet to be born and then abandoned. If I show people that we need everyone’s help and donations, then that would be the exact message I wanted to send people with my images."
The exhibition runs from May 29th - 26th June and is being held at the Eldon Building, Portsmouth University.
These images are created using a very life like toy doll and no children were involved or hurt in any way.
