Equatorial Guinea is a little country found in Central Africa, which the area is about 28.050 km square. It’s compose in two parts, Islands and mainland between Cameroon and Gabon. It has more than half a million inhabitants. It’s border on North with Cameroon, to the Southern and East with Gabon, to the western with the Atlantic Ocean.
On spit of oil exportation ten years ago, the country remains poor.
Many people are now living in the two big cities (Malabo Bata) attracted by de oil export enterprises hoping to find a job to improve their own live level.
The SOS Children Village it found in Bata, as you already know. In the countryside, many people are still living thanks to the traditional agriculture of subsistence while the island population are living with the artisan fishing.
The 50% of children living in the SOS Village Bata are coming from the mainland villages and some of them are coming from the islands.
During this year, the SOS Village Children admission Committee was focus on the children who are far a away from Bata SOS Village I mean inaccessible sites where there are many places that the co-workers need to travel by canoe or foot to collect some children through the forest rout.
Actually, we have 95 SOS children in the SOS Village both of them (boys and girls).
Some relevant events took place in our SOS Village during this year such as the visit of the IMF (International Monetary Fond) Manager, Mister Rodrigo Rato. The International mothers day, the International African child day and the Hermann Gmeiner anniversary. This events were celebrated in the SOS Village with the SOS family and all SOS co-workers. During the celebration some SOS children was acting, singing and dancing traditional dances.
SOS Village has many other structures, which are functioning to help and save SOS children, co-workers and the members of the neighbour’s community.
A SOS medical centre is built up to give a good health care to SOS children and those of the neighbour’s community. The SOS medical centre it took at least 600 patients every month and the malaria, diarrhoea and many others tropical infections are the most observed.
The cooperation agreement between the SOS medical centre and The Spanish medical centre NINO JESUS it was signed tree years ago. The SOS medical centre was receive a surgery medical teams to put on the SOS children surgery operations in our medical centre, at least some 75 children were beneficiaries of surgery operation.
The nursery school: it has children from 3 to five years old, the kindergarten it was achieve the number of 300 children this year including those of the neighbours community.
The family reinforcement: it’s a project to help family in need . There are already 23 family took under this project responsibility giving them some money for foods and medical treatment.
The SOS Primary and Secondary school: There are ten classroom shared for both of them. The primary school is working in the morning with 504 students and the secondary is working from afternoon with 216 students. Some 30 students have been grants by scholarship fees discount. The granted students are from the poor family.
A children right campaign was organised by the SOS schools in order to promote the children’s rights in our community, many activities were organised in order to sensibly student against VIH-SIDA and reading of International peace day.
The SOS Primary school received some give from SOS partners and privates and it’s working together with another NGOs. The SOS primary school is actually the champion of the scholar league. The football team is compose mainly by SOS youths.
