Places for the 2009 London Marathon announced
03/10/2008
Congratulations to everyone who has secured a 2009 London Marathon place through the ballot!
After you have experienced the initial elation, excitement (and perhaps a little fear of the rigorous training schedule ahead of you) you might begin to consider how running for a charity could provide an additional incentive to help you achieve this challenge.
Choosing to run for SOS Children means receiving fundraising support, complimentary vests and t-shirts and having cheerleaders to help you along your 26.2 mile way on Sunday 26 April. Perhaps more importantly, it means every hard-earned penny of sponsorship can be allocated to one of our worldwide projects - helping to build a school in Zambia, empowering vulnerable child-headed families affected by HIV/AIDS in Swaziland or South Africa....
In 2008, our 12 brilliant London Marathon runners raised an incredible £26,397.39 - supporting a number of projects to help give orphaned and abandoned children a family for life, an education and a brighter future.
Just think what you can do. If you have had confirmation of your place in the 2009 Flora London Marathon, please contact Caroline Baker, Challenges Coordinator: caroline@soschildren.org or call the office, 01223 365589. We look forward to supporting your marathon efforts on behalf of SOS Children!
We do not have any charity places in the 2009 London Marathon. We do have charity places in the British 10km Run on Sunday 12 July 2009.
FLM08 runner Lucy Edge from Avanti, says:
"Running the marathon for SOS Children was a very different experience from my usual sporting activities: when there is so much depending on your success, you can dig that little bit deeper than if you are just doing it for yourself. I was not well but knew I had to finish the course in order to get the £2.6k sponsorship. It was a very emotional and worthwhile event, especially when I managed to visit one of the SOS Villages in Bangalore a few months later and see how much that sponsorship money could really achieve. SOS Children creates very tangible results which is nice for the sponsor to witness"
