Summer 2007 update from the SOS Children's Village Ulaanbaatar
We would like to inform you the recent developments and events of our SOS Children’s Village Ulaanbaatar. We have 130 children in the village. The biggest child is 16 years old girl Uyanga and youngest child is one year old girl Monkhlkhagva. We received 5 new children in our village.
Children are preparing their annual exams now. After the exam they will have summer vacation until September. Elder children will go to the Khentii aimag to see historical places relating on Chinggis Khaan. They will travel about 1200 km to the countryside for 10 days. The trip will be very useful to know historical site of Mongolian Secret book and ancient Mongolian history items. Smaller children will go to the summer campus with their SOS mothers.
Our children have good study and cultural, sport performance in this year. We organized annual basketball, volleyball and table tennis games at the village. Children often involve different activities including fest days and health or ethnic trainings in theme of “Child and secure environment” serial training for prevention of the accident, legal and health, reproductive training, basic course of English language and computers were held for the SOS mothers and children.They go to the different lessons including table tennis, chess, draughts, gymnastics and choral lessons at the village. Also tutorials give Mongolian language and mathematics lesson tuition to the children every day. Some of the children are going to the different workshops at the Mongolian Children’s Palace and Children’s Creation centre continuously. There are many useful workshops including drama and dance, straw appliqué, felt appliqué lessons. Also children went to swimming lesson at the Swimming centre.
The work of SOS Children’s Village in Mongolia has developed well. The social surveys were done in the neighborhood sub-districts of SOS Children’s Village Ulaanbaatar in March and April 2006. Deputy Secretary General Mr. Siddharta visited in Mongolia in May 2006 and has approved the establishment of two Social Centres. The Family strenthening programme targeted for 200 chidlren. This programme is one part of the integrated SOS child care model. It will support poor families together with their children for independent livelhood.
New COC Children’s village construction process is going well. It planned to complete on December, 2007.
