Summary

Vercingétorix jette ses armes aux pieds de Jules César, 1899, par Lionel-Noël Royer

Il est d'ailleurs curieux de voir un des guerriers de Vercingétorix (au fond à gauche) avec un torque au cou. En effet le torque n'était réservé qu'aux divinités et aux personnages importants faisant partis de la famille royale. La réprésentation du gaulois avec les cheveux longs et moustache est remise en cause aujourd'hui. Le cheval est un Percheron, alors qu'à cette époque cette race n'était pas en Gaule. De plus, les Gaulois montaient à cru, alors qu'ici le cheval est harnaché. Le bouclier à forme rectangulaire qui ne correspond pas à la réalité de l'époque ; ils étaient plutôt ovales. Et encore, nous avons une représentation anachronique sous forme de château avec un incendie qui ne correspond pas à la réalité. Ce tableau est donc une théâtralisation de la rédition de Vercingétorix.
