Polar First: Challenge to reach the ends of the earth
Polar First is a world record breaking attempt to reach the ends of the earth by helicopter. Jennifer Murray and Colin Bodill will be travelling for approximately 175 and covering over 36,000 nautical miles in their bid to travel from South to North Pole and everywhere in between.
This will be the second time and final time the adventurous pair attempt this record. Their first effort in 2003 ended after a crash in whiteout conditions just days after reaching the South Pole. However, they're confident that Mother Nature will be with them this time and are determined to complete the challenge!
However, it's not only about reaching the ends of the earth. This time, Jennifer and Murray are also hoping to use the journey and their stop offs en-route to raise awareness about the plight of the planet by working with local schools, as well as gaining new supporters for the work of SOS Children's Villages.
Thanks to Shell Aviation's sponsorship of the challenge, Polar First adopted SOS Children as its beneficiary charity. Along the route from pole to pole, the Polar First team will be working with many local SOS associations to help raise awareness about the charity's valuable work as well as gaining new supporters, so a big thank you to everyone involved!
