That is all

Billie Eilish calls herself out in fifth annual Vanity Fair interview

Pop singer Billie Eilish has shamelessly called out her past self during her fifth annual Vanity Fair interview, admitting that much of her apparent youthful confidence had actually been hopeful lies.

“This is just me trying to convince myself that I didn’t care,” laughed Eilish when reviewing footage of her 2019 interview.

Vanity Fair has interviewed Eilish every Oct. 18 since 2017, making it an annual tradition tracking her growth both as an artist and a person. It’s like the celebrity equivalent of measuring yourself against your grandma’s door frame every Christmas.

“I used to be just filled with these like, inspirational quotes, just like ready to go all the time, that I didn’t even agree with most of the time,” the now 19-year-old Eilish confessed. “Kinda crazy. Every time I see an interview from that period, from when I was like 16, I’m like… everything I said was so stupid.

“Like, not even stupid. It just was like, not what I was actually thinking. I was thinking like, ‘I’m overwhelmed. I hate this. Everybody expects something from me. I don’t have anything to give them. I fucking suck. My jewellery is cool.'”
