Various colors of plutonium in solution. Caption for left side of image:"The color of plutonium oxidation states. Each oxidation state, ranging from Pu(III) to Pu(VII), has a characteristic colour in solution. Plutonium will often change oxidation states in solution, making its interaction with the natural environment inordinately complex." The right side of the image shows different colors of Pu ONLY in the IV oxidation state, but in solutions containing different anions. This is an image created at the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab and as such is a work of the federal government.
