Data for Switzerland as of 2006 according to linguadult.ch : German is spoken as a foreign language by 39% in French speaking Switzerland (Romandie), and by 49% in Italian speaking Switzerland (Ticino). 20% of people in the German speaking area speak German as a foreign language. Over all of Switzerland, about 88% speak German (64% natively and 24% as a second language).
