This image has been downloaded from the Great War Primary Documents Archive. It states on that
- "photos are taken from government sources", or,
- "at least 70 years has passed from the original copyright date." for which they assume "in good faith [...] elapsed copyrights". They say that "All copyright issues are the responsibility of the end user" and "it is strongly suggested that you attempt to obtain permission from the original copyright holder before using any of these images for commercial purposes."
For their alleged sweat of the brow rights gained by the act of scanning, they state that "Permission is granted to use the images on this site for any purpose provided that [...] Images used must be credited to the archive. In the case of images used on the web, such credit should constitute an HTML link to the Photos of the Great War index page." This is NOT a license template! An additional license tag is required! Please consider using {{ PD-USGov}} or {{ PD-old}}. |

This image (or other media file) is in the public domain because its copyright has expired.
This applies to the United States, Canada, the European Union and those countries with a copyright term of life of the author plus 70 years.
Note that a few countries have copyright terms longer than 70 years: Mexico has 100 years, Colombia has 80 years, and Guatemala and Samoa have 75 years. This image may not be in the public domain in these countries, which moreover do not implement the rule of the shorter term. Côte d'Ivoire has a general copyright term of 99 years and Honduras has 75 years, but they do implement that rule of the shorter term.
