Mechanism of glucose dependent insulin release
CORRECTION: I think that the potassium channel allows potassium out of rather than into the cell as drawn, which is why inhibition by ATP (or the antidiabetic sulphonylurea drugs) causes depolarisation.
I agree: The arrow pointing outwards the K+-channel is definitely wrong. It's not only stated the other way round in major biochemistry books (e.g. in German: Löffler et al., Springer Verlag) but also logical if you reflect it yourself: ATP inhibits the K+ flow out of the cell, so there's even more K+ inside which makes the cell depolarise. Someone had already removed the image from the English insulin article - I have removed it from the German one now. WOuld be great if someone could correct the image since it's otherwise very nice.
