WOW Celebrity supporters

A whole host of celebrities have shown their support for the ‘wear something WOW’ for World Orphan Week campaign. We would like to say an enormous thank you to all of those who are helping us this year.

Georgie Henley, Chronicles of Narnia Actress

We are delighted to welcome Georgie Henley, who plays Lucy Pevensie in the 'Chronicles of Narnia' film series, as our latest WOW Ambasassdor.

Georgie Henley reprised her Narnia role in the sequels, 'The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian', and the forthcoming 'The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader' (due out in 2010). Georgie Henley is part of the Ilkley Upstagers' Theatre Group and since the release of 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe' she has appeared in the stage play Babes in the Wood at her local theatre group and also appeared in the 2006 BBC adaptation of Jane Eyre.

Georgie says: "I can't imagine not having my family. To not have that support and love would just be so awful. Family is the most important thing in my life. That's why SOS Children is so important to me too. Every child deserves the same support and care that I have. So it means a lot to me to be involved with SOS Children".

Phil Spencer, TV Presenter and SOS Children Ambassador

Presenter of Channel 4’s ‘Location, Location, Location’ Phil Spencer visited our SOS Children’s Villages in Ghana last year and has been a WOW supporter ever since. There is more to read about Phil’s trip to Ghana.

Phil says “I experienced SOS Children’s work in Ghana first hand last year and was truly inspired by what I saw. I will be asking everyone I know to ‘wear something WOW’.”

Vivienne Westwood, Fashion Designer

Queen of groundbreaking fashion, Vivienne Westwood is the first person you think of if you’re looking to find something WOW to wear, and we’ve been extremely fortunate to gain her support and endorsement for the campaign.

“As a designer who has always taken inspiration from a broad range of influences and who revels in making beautiful and powerful clothes, I am delighted to be part of SOS Children’s ‘wear something WOW’ campaign, and help give orphans around the world a family for life”

George Alagiah, BBC TV News Presenter and Journalist

News journalist and T.V presenter George Alagiah, best known for presenting the BBC News at six, has decided to support WOW and says "In my years as a BBC Foreign Correspondent, I saw that the most vulnerable people, mainly children, were always the ones that suffered. Many end up as orphans after disasters and wars. Please join me in supporting WOW and help SOS Children help more orphaned children; one by one."

Louise Minchin, BBC TV Presenter

T.V presenter Louise Minchin, who currently presents BBC Breakfast, is passionate about the campaign and says "I am delighted to be part of the supporting team for SOS Children's 'wear something WOW". As a mum of two young children I know how important it is for them to have someone to love and care for them and make them feel safe. SOS Children do this brilliantly all over the world, giving orphaned and abandoned children a family for life. So lets wear something WOW for them!"

Jordan Parkinson, rising star and WOW Ambassador!

Meet Jordan Parkinson, our fantastic new WOW Ambassador.

Jordan, 15, is from Rochester in Kent. Hugely talented, he's been singing since he was nine and is sure to be a big star! He first became involved in WOW 2008 as a child model and was so inspired, he's decided to use his talent to help promote WOW 2009. Together with his music management, Jordan is currently recording 'For Once in My Life' as the official WOW 2009 song, so watch this space!

Jordan says "I am really looking forward to recording the song and going to one of the SOS Children's Villages to see the work first hand. I hope I inspire other young people to get involved and make a difference. I have personal reasons why this charity is important to me and I hope that I will play a part in some way for many years to come."
